Rev. Mark Kiyimba is the founding minister of the Unitarian Universalist Church in Kampala, Uganda. He has received international attention for his courageous stand against the anti-LGBT bill that is now before the Ugandan Parliament. According to the bill, those perceived as homosexual can receive life imprisonment and in some cases, even death.
Many gay and lesbian Ugandans and their allies are risking arrest by protesting this inhumane bill. Some American evangelical Christian ministers visited Uganda only to worsen the situation by claiming to “cure” homosexuality and by supporting antigay bigotry. Rev. Kiyimba’s compassionate work to support LGBT human rights was exposed by the evangelical press and his life was threatened. Rev. Kiyimba is now a refugee, touring the U.S. to tell his story.
