We were honored to be selected by the American Foundation for Equal Rights (AFER) to be one of the presenters of a reading of their play “8”.

8 working

“8”—a new play by AFER and Academy-award winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black (Milk, J. Edgar) chronicles the landmark trial of Perry v. Schwarzenegger. Using the actual court transcripts from the federal trial of California’s Prop. 8 and first-hand interviews, “8” shows both sides of the debate in a moving 90-minute play.

The show was directed by our own Rev. Lora Brandis, and produced by Pamela Lopez and Matthew Weisman.  Stage design, lighting and audio were provided by the remarkable Claudia and Rick Barton who transformed our sanctuary into a theater.   Laure Mckinnon, David Barker, Mary-Ellen Bruskotter, Larry Swerdlove and Daniel Weisman were among a great group of back-stage crew without whom the show could not have happened.
